Introduction to Trauma and Trauma-Informed Framework

Description: 
Trauma unfortunately is more universal than once thought. The lived experience of
traumatic events can vary greatly, which makes it vital to have basic trauma competence as a
healthcare provider. This workshop will introduce participants to the potential impact trauma can
have on individuals throughout the lifespan. In addition, participants will gain basic knowledge in
utilizing a trauma-informed approach at the individual and community level.

Presenter:
Matthew Walsh, Ph.D., LPC, NCC has 18 years of experience in higher education. He is a full-time psychotherapist and Coordinator of Community Engagement at Duquesne University’s Counseling Services. In addition, Dr. Walsh is a consultant and adjunct faculty member at two universities. He has co-created a new community-based intervention called, Trauma-informed Community Development with the Neighborhood Resilience Project in Pittsburgh, PA. Dr. Walsh obtained his Ph.D. from Duquesne University.
