Trauma-Informed Care Learning Collaborative

Weekly one-hour web-based sessions, July 24-September 11, 2019

The Great Lakes MHTTC and the New England MHTTC are offering a free learning collaborative that will help agencies in the Great Lakes and New England regions implement a trauma-informed approach. Apply to join the collaborative, where you will build a trauma-informed implementation plan specific to all levels of your operation, from policies and procedures to service delivery. Staff from the Great Lakes MHTTC and the New England MHTTC will facilitate the learning collaborative sessions. Up to 12 organizations per region will be selected to participate.

Trauma-Informed Care Webinar Series 

The Great Lakes and New England MHTTC's three-part webinar series on trauma-informed care is a great way to prepare for participating in the learning collaborative. 

Katie Volk of the New England MHTTC presented the first webinar (June 5, 2019) in the series, “What is Trauma-informed Care and Why Does it Matter?” 

Katie cited the Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE) Study, which surveyed 17,000 people on childhood trauma experiences. More than two-thirds of respondents reported at least one traumatic childhood experience. This study also found a strong connection between early trauma and later physical and mental health issues. 

Because trauma is such a universal experience, behavioral health treatment services need to be trauma-informed, focusing on the individual as well as culture and environment. Implementing trauma-informed services is key. 

“What is Trauma-informed Care and Why Does it Matter” provided an overview of trauma-informed care, including common definitions, notable research, and examples of how organizations have implemented trauma-informed care. 

The webinar was recorded and will be available for viewing on the Great Lakes MHTTC and New England MHTTC websites.

June 19: Trauma-Informed Care in the Context of Recovery-Oriented Approaches
The principles of trauma-informed care and recovery complement one another. This webinar presents both models, discusses the overlap between the two, and highlights examples of how recovery-oriented, trauma-informed approaches look in practice.

July 10: How to Implement Trauma-Informed Care
This webinar presents the practical ways that individuals and programs can implement trauma-informed care. Presenters will describe a framework for understanding the implementation process, discuss key factors that support and inhibit organizational change, and outline the process step-by-step.
