These resources offer a variety of support for farmers including stress hotlines, disaster recovery, opioid abuse resources, and educational opportunities.

 

 

Avera Farm and Rural Stress Hotline
Avera Health System, located in South Dakota, offers the Farm and Rural Stress Hotline where farmers can talk to one of Avera’s skilled, compassionate mental health professionals and trust them to help navigate whatever they are experiencing, to include symptoms or signs of anxiety or depression. The hotline is free, confidential, and available 24/7 at 1-800-691-4336.


Cultivating Resiliency for Women in Agriculture
The Cultivating Resiliency for Women in Agriculture project centers around the fact that farmwomen and women in agriculture have unique needs in responding to farm and agricultural stress because of the multiple roles they play.


Farm Aid
Farm Aid is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to keep family farmers on the land. Through the 1-800-FARM-AID hotline and email service, Farm Aid’s in-house farm advocate refers farmers to an extensive network of family farm and rural support organizations across the country.

This resource list from Farm Aid can help with legal needs, when disasters strike, resources for socially disadvantaged farmers, and family services.


Farm Crisis Center
Provided through the National Farmers Union, the Farm Crisis Center is a directory of national and local resources to help farmers through stressful times.


Farmer Resource Network Online Directory
Farm Aid’s online directory contains more than 750 organizations that work directly with farmers nationwide on a variety of issues. Search for resources by state and type of farm.


Farm Town Strong
The nation's two largest farm organizations, the American Farm Bureau Federation and the National Farmers Union, have teamed up to bring attention to the opioid epidemic in farm country and provide information and resources to help those struggling with opioid abuse.


National Association for Rural Mental Health
The National Association for Rural Mental Health (NARMH) is a professional organization that serves the field of rural behavioral health. NARMH’s membership includes the entire spectrum of the rural mental health community, including consumers, family members, practitioners, administrators, educators, researchers, and policy makers. A unifying force for NARMH has been a focus on rural concerns, which includes a commitment to rural people and those that serve them. This belief that rural comes first has allowed NARMH to concentrate its efforts to improve access, availability, acceptability of behavioral health and substance abuse services and research in rural and frontier areas.


National Farmers Union (NFU)
NFU believes that good opportunities in production agriculture are the foundation of strong farm and ranch families, and strong farm and ranch families are the basis for thriving rural communities. NFU provides a variety of educational opportunities for youth and adults at the local, state, and national levels.


Rural Advancement Foundation International (RAFI-USA)
RAFI-USA believes in order to ensure a safe, adequate supply of healthy food, we must protect farm workers and encourage environmentally sound farming. RAFI provides an array of resources on their website, as well as a hotline and specific list of resources related to disaster recovery.


Rural Resilience Online Course
This program provides participants the skills to understand the sources of stress, learn the warning signs of stress and suicide, identify effective communication strategies, reduce stigma related to mental health concerns, and connect farmers and ranchers with appropriate mental health and other resources.
