Strengthening Resilience: Promoting Positive Mental Health Among Indigenous Youth

Strengthening Resilience: Promoting Positive Mental Health Among Indigenous Youth

July 16, 2021

9:15 - 10:15 AM/MST | 10:15 - 11:15 AM/CST

This session is part of the 7th Annual North Dakota Indian Education Summit hosted by the North Dakota Department of Public Instruction

This session and resource are designed to provide tools for K-12 educators, administrators, and mental health treatment providers to better address the learning and behavioral health needs of Indigenous youth in a holistic manner. The process requires knowledge on the various levels of trauma and their connection/relationship with education and achievement for Indigenous youth.  Additionally, we present protective factors and strategies to build resilience through culturally responsive practices. This entails sharing strategies on the integration of the Seven Teachings and the Circle of Courage into traditional teaching practices in k-12 curriculum.
