Thomasine Heitkamp, Director of the Mountain Plains Mental Health Technology Transfer Center, and Dr. Shawnda Schroeder with the Center for Rural Health will present the first topic in a series of webinars addressing farm stress. This first session, Introduction to Farm Stress: Mental Health Needs Among Diverse Farm Populations will address the definition of farm stress, contributing factors, the impact of farm stress on the family, and how farming demographics and associated stress may vary by U.S. region. Finally, this session will introduce resources that currently exist for farmers to address stress and suicide risk, as well as present ongoing gaps and barriers to utilizing mental health services among agricultural communities.
