The Importance of Telehealth in WY and Other Rural Areas

There's a lot working against rural citizens when they try to find mental health help. "Feelings of emotional isolation and aloneness can be barriers for people dealing with mental health issues. Those in Wyoming often can add physical isolation and distancing as hurdles to clear in getting treatment. In northwest Wyoming, people dealing with mental health issues have few options. Distance between communities, staff shortages and a limited number of residential beds for crisis patients all are barriers for patients and the professionals who treat them."

 

In Wyoming, access and finances continue to be two of the largest barriers. This article written by Wendy Corr at Cowboy State Daily does an excellent job relaying just how difficult mental healthcare can be in the state.
