"Rugged Individuality" Hurting Rural Citizens

Living in rural places can be beautiful, fulfilling, and incredibly freeing. It can also be lonely, desolate, and lacking access to many important elements. For some living in rural communities, access to a doctor or mental health professional can be many hours away. 

 

This article written by Maddy Butcher of the Washington Post highlights some of the challenges of rural living in Colorado. It's a great example of what many people within our region and across the world face on a day-to-day basis. Access, travel, stigma, and a strong "I can do it by myself" attitude all play big hurdles to get over when living rural.
