September is Suicide Prevention Month

September 9, 2020 - Suicide is a leading cause of death in the United States. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Leading Causes of Death Reports, in 2018, suicide was the tenth leading cause of death overall, amounting to over 48,000 lives. Suicide was the second leading cause of death between the ages of 10 and 34, and the fourth leading cause of death between the ages 35 and 54.

Suicide prevention and awareness campaigns strive to help reduce the stigma surrounding mental health and seeking treatment while promoting healthy discussion and resources. Please join the Mountain Plains Mental Health Technology Transfer Center in celebrating National Suicide Prevention Month throughout the entire month and World Suicide Prevention Day on September 10.
