Masters of Public Health (MPH) students at the University of Iowa's College of Public Health recently presented posters on their applied practice experiences. Two of the 14 students work for National American Indian and Alaska Native Technology Transfer Centers (National AI/AN TTCs)at Iowa's Native Center for Behavioral Health.

Mya Davis, who has worked primarily with the National AI/AN MHTTC School Mental Health Program, helped a local child service agency evaluate their current practices to improve racial and ethnic equity in recruiting, retaining, training, and supporting foster and adoptive families in Iowa.

Cam Marsengill, whose work with the Native Center for Behavioral Health has focused on communications activities, including website construction and management, worked with Planned Parenthood over the summer to help define and implement best practices for gender-affirming care.

Both Davis and Marsengill noted similarities between their applied practical experience and their work with AI/AN communities, including a dearth of relevant research and disparities in how racial and ethnic minorities experience child welfare and health care systems.
