Description
The Motivational Interviewing (MI) Intensive Technical Assistance (ITA) project is a free 6 month initiative developed to help Behavioral Health Care (BHC) organizations build the skills and capacities necessary to integrate MI into all aspects of service delivery, including client assessments, goal planning, treatment/interventions, and support planning. Working with all levels of an organization, this initiative aims to improve recovery outcomes through training and technical assistance in MI, as well as enhance understanding of the underlying change process. 

 

 

 

Eligibility Criteria

  • Organization who wants to integrate MI into services.
  • Must be able to commit an implementation team of: 2 senior administrators, 3-5 clinical supervisors, 15-20 direct service staff to participate in ITA activities.   

 

Basic Requirements:

  • Identification and participation of team members integral to successful implementation
  • Full participation of designated staff in all training and ITA activities
  • Technical capacity to participate in Zoom video conferencing meetings
  • Located in New York or New Jersey
  • Some minimal travel may be required

 

Project Timeline:
Application Deadline: June 30, 2019 
MI Intensive TA Project Begins:
Approx. July 14, 2019
MI Intensive TA Project Ends:
Approx. December 13, 2019

 

Outline of Activities

  • Application review, site visit (1 hour) 
  • Full day MI training for all direct service staff (6 hours)
  • Development of an implementation plan with specific goals and objectives  (2 hour site visit and/or remote meeting) 
  • Full day of MI training for clinical supervisors, including advanced techniques and supervisory approaches (6 hours)
  • Training for administrators  to facilitate implementation (2x - 1 ½  hours, online)
  • Follow-up coaching session with direct service staff and clinical supervisors to enhance MI skills proficiency (3 hours)
  • Individualized Peer-to-Peer Learning Communities for: 1) administrators, 2) clinical supervisors, and 3) direct service staff with expert consultation to support ongoing implementation (1 hour sessions/2x per month for 6 months)
  • Sustainability Plan Meeting (1 hour site visit
