Pause, Breathe, Move: Self-Care for Healthcare Providers

Session 1: Pause
April 29, 8:30 am - 9:00 am ET
Michelle Zechner & Peggy Swarbrick

Session 1 will introduce taking time for yourself and specifically taking a few moments to “pause”. The purpose of the session is for participants to focus on the present moment, taking time to pause and become aware of their thoughts and breath. Consider pausing throughout the day – before or after patient care, at the end of a shift, or when a person catches themselves starting to feel uncomfortable. Taking time to focus, even for a few minutes, can help improve mood, decrease anxiety, and lessen feelings of stress.

Session 2: Breathe
May 6, 8:30 am - 9:00 am ET
Michelle Zechner & Mary Catherine Lundquist
Session 2 focuses on breathing. Taking time to focus on your breathing can change your mood and help decrease anxiety and stress. This strategy can be done at work before or after a shift, between patients, during a particularly difficult encounter, and more.

Session 3: Move
May 13, 8:30 am - 9:00 am ET
Michelle Zechner & Monica Townsend
Session 3 focuses on the importance of moving mindfully. This session includes practicing a series of eight gentle stretches that can be done for a few moments during the day to help release stress tension and restore focus and balance.

Session 4: Nourish the Body
May 20, 8:30 am - 9:00 am ET
Michelle Zechner & Peggy Swarbrick
Session 4 introduces the idea of nourishing your thoughts and body. Taking in good nutrients and focusing on positive thoughts both help to nourish us. Good food, plenty of water, and positive thoughts can be very helpful to our overall well-being.

Session 5: Pause, Breathe, and Move for Sleep
May 27, 8:30 am - 9:00 am ET
Peggy Swarbrick & Mary Catherine Lundquist
Session 5 introduces the importance of sleep for well-being. This session will review how pausing, breathing, and moving mindfully during the day can all help promote sleep.
