A new guide was published in Summer 2021 by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Office of Minority Health. The guide, known as the "Behavioral Health Implementation Guide for the National Standards for Culturally and Linguistically Appropriate Services in Health and Health Care" (or National CLAS Standards), is a collaboration with the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration.

The intent of the National CLAS Standards is to improve the quality of care, help eliminate health care disparities, and advance health equity; the Behavioral Health Implementation Guide is a companion document, so that together, the two documents provide concrete, feasible implementation strategies for the health and behavioral healthcare community to improve the provision of service to all individuals.
