New Report from CDC Sounds the Alarm on Opioid Overdoses

Drug overdose deaths increase while disparities grow

A newly issued report by the Centers for Disease Control reveals troubling new trends: in the past year, drug overdose deaths have increased while disparities among different population groups have widened. For example, overdose death rates (number of drug overdose deaths per 100,000 people) increased 44% for Black people and 39% for American Indian and Alaska Native (AI/AN) people. In addition, a lower proportion of people from racial and ethnic minority groups received substance use treatment, compared with White people. Read the full report online here.
