Mental wellness is central to ensuring a child’s best start. Schools (where children spend most of their waking hours) often recognize that addressing a student’s mental health and social emotional needs lead to better outcomes. Students are healthier, happier, and more likely to succeed. Yet many schools lack the resources to provide effective mental health services. The School Mental Health National Toolkit was developed to help community advocates, schools, and local leaders work together to assess, identify, prioritize, and fund school-based mental health services.

Funded by the Mountain Plains Mental Health Technology Transfer Center, the Western Interstate Commission for Higher Education worked with Mental Health Colorado to develop this toolkit. The toolkit will show you how to promote school-based mental health and wellness programs that work. It contains resources and steps you can use to make schools the best they can be and ensure every child has a path to success.
