Join the Northeast & Caribbean Mental Health Technology Transfer Center for a virtual three-session community of practice to re-imagine educational settings to reduce school violence by centering and encouraging joy. This intergenerational community of practice will elevate student voices through staff-student collaboration.
Staff, and the students they select, will learn to reflect on and share their lived school experience, identify and address challenges that take place in the wake of school violence, and creatively reimagine the school environment through diverse perspectives.
Outcomes
Participants will leave with an enhanced awareness of their school spaces and an actionable plan for transforming them to reduce school violence and increase joy. Additionally, participants will gain a deeper understanding of joy as a method of recovery and will be able to integrate these strategies directly into daily practices.
Methods
This community of practice series will draw together multimodal art and critical literacy-based methods of inquiry and community building. Using collective inquiry and guided discussions, participants will reflect on their experiences to assess possibilities for their schools.
Target Audience
Session 1: School staff interested in reimagining the school space.
Sessions 2 & 3: School staff and a high school-aged youth invited by staff (to be discussed further in Session 1).
