Over a 20-year period, estimated national costs of self-injury death increased by 143%, from $0.46 trillion to $1.12 trillion (1999-2000 to 2018-2019). A new report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) shows suicides increased in 2021 to the highest levels seen in four years. The D.C. Board of Education’s Student Advisory Committee (SAC) released their annual report to the agency on July 20. The report includes citywide survey findings about how students coped with their mental health challenges during the 2021-2022 school year.
