She received her doctoral degree from the School of Professional Psychology at Pacific University in 2004, and completed her predoctoral internship at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine/Montefiore Medical Center’s Adolescent Depression and Suicide Program. As public health workers, your work has a unique level of stress during this time. We are best able to maintain our mental health through these difficult times if we stay aware of the effects of stress, take steps to stay mentally healthy, and maintain connections with others. This webinar will offer information on awareness, self-care and connection with others so public health workers can develop a plan for maintaining their mental health. We will discuss common issues such as coping with fear, anxiety and loss; changing work demands; navigating family relationships; and coping with an uncertain future as the pandemic continues.

Michelle Kurta is an educator, coach, and facilitator. For over 15 years, Michelle has engaged in educational equity and justice work as a student, organizer, and teacher. Michelle earned a masters degree in Depth Psychology from Pacifica Graduate Institute and an M.Ed in Urban Education and Single-subject Teaching Credential from UCLA. Michelle taught English Language Development, Language Arts, and Psychology at the School for Visual Arts and Humanities in the LAUSD. Prior to forming Meaning Makers Collective, Michelle most served as a resilience and trauma-informed practices coach for a national initiative to support school employee wellness in CA and CO.

Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) is a multidisciplinary, team-based model that provides intensive community-based and outreach-oriented services to people who experience the most severe and persistent mental illness. The vast majority also have a co-occurring substance use disorder and many experience comorbid medical illnesses as well as homelessness. This is a vulnerable population and their providers – ACT teams – are at elevated risk themselves during the COVID-19 pandemic. We are hosting a meet-up for non-provider ACT stakeholders who assume a role of overseeing ACT, funding ACT, providing ACT training and technical supports, and/or conducting ACT fidelity reviews. The intent is to create a unique space to share challenges and solutions related ACT operations and services during the COVID-19 pandemic. This meet-up is hosted by Lorna Moser, Ph.D. of the Institute for Best Practices, UNC Center for Excellence in Community Mental Health and Maria Monroe-DeVita, PhD of the University of Washington Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences and the Northwest Mental Health Technology Transfer Center (MHTTC), the sponsor for these ACT meet-up events. Telehealth with Children and Adolescents: Telehealth Learning and Consultation (TLC) Tuesdays This hour-long online series will support behavioral health providers who are new to using telehealth. During each hour-long session, our Technology Transfer Center (TTC) Network specialists will spend the first 20 minutes addressing a specific topic, then answer questions submitted by TLC Tuesday registrants. Recordings of the 20-minute presentations as well as additional resources will be posted on the web as they become available. Every session will run from 9:00 am – 10:00 am (MT). Registration is required for every TLC Tuesday session. During registration, you will be prompted to submit any questions you have in advance of the session. Weekly Virtual Meetings The Northwest MHTTC is partnering with the Institute for Best Practices at the University of North Carolina to host and facilitate regular meetings for ACT teams and ACT stakeholders. These meetings will be held weekly on Mondays at 12:00-1:30 pm Pacific/3:00-4:30 pm Eastern. Goals of the meetings are to: connect with one other share strategies and resources for adapting team practices and communications    facilitate connection to the most up-to-date resources during the COVID-19 outbreak.   Virtual Discussion Forum In addition to the weekly meet-up, we have also created a Virtual Discussion Forum to help organize information, resources, and strategies used across teams. You can participate in the forum as a guest, or sign up as a member. Within the Discussion Forum are specific board topics: Support for ACT Service Recipients; Support for ACT Team Staff; Info and Updates: Federal Sources; Info and Updates: State and Local Sources; ACT Fidelity and COVID-19 Pandemic; and Words of Encouragement. Native American Summit on Spirituality: Cultural Inclusion into Mental Health Assessments for Native Americans Please note: This is a series of virtual meetings that have been announced in place of our original face-to-face event, which will be rescheduled. Click the registration button above to register for our third virtual session on April 17 from 2-4pm EDT, 1-3pm CDT, 12-2pm MDT, 11am-1pm PDT, 10am-12pm ADT.  The American Indian and Alaska Native ATTC, MHTTC, and PTTC have invited spiritual leaders from American Indian and Alaska Native communities to come together to discuss the importance of spirituality in the treatment of behavioral health and mental health disorders. Spirituality is often left out of counseling and therapeutic relationships, but is an essential part of healing and change for many clients.  Behavioral health, mental health, and addiction treatment professionals, spiritual leaders, social workers, and other health service professionals are welcome to attend this important discussion on methods for integrating spirituality into their work with clients.

The next frontier of peer support services started quickly. The rapid deployment of digital media tools to provide peer support services has created a new set of ongoing technical hurdles, but when people do get past those, what do they find? This webinar will focus not on the technical how to of online peer support, but how to provide meaningful support and keep people connected within that digital space. We will explore how to move traditional in-person activities to online activities, including how to adapt, and when adaptation is not practical or possible. Participants will also learn how to use traditional and social media to engage and expand peer participation in online wellness and support activities. By the end of the webinar, participants will be able to: Schedule diverse and meaningful support and wellness activities for peers Identify online wellness and support activities that can replace traditional activities Transition traditional peer engagement to online engagement Maintain existing relationships with peers Build new relationships with peers
