Year 3 Plan

Training and TA Activities for Year 3 (August 2020 – August 2021)

The Northwest MHTTC serves as a resource for the behavioral health workforce, broadly defined, in the identification, secondary and tertiary prevention, management, and treatment of serious mental health conditions. In addition, the Northwest MHTTC leverages recent advances in dissemination and implementation science to use best practice strategies to help systems of care adopt and sustain evidence-based interventions for the serious mental illness (SMI) population in Alaska, Idaho, Oregon, and Washington (Region 10).

A non-exhaustive list of proposed training activities for Year 3 includes: 

Tier 1 (Universal)
  • Host virtual training events on topics of interest to the Region 10 workforce and other providers (e.g., integrated care, forensic mental health, medication and psychotherapy)
  • Provide free resource library, accessible through the Northwest MHTTC Website
  • Continue offering web-based trainings on Violence Risk Assessment, A Psychiatrist's Guide to Population Management of Diabetes, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Psychosis
  • Develop in-person trainings on a range of school mental health (SMH) topics
  • Continue team training on Interconnected Systems Framework for School Mental Health (SMH)
  • Publish webinars and podcasts on the topic of provider well-being
  • Create and maintain web-based wellness resources for school mental health providers


Tier 2 (Targeted)
  • Facilitate regular meetings for assertive community treatment (ACT) teams and ACT stakeholders
  • Deliver ACT-related resources and training to assertive community treatment (ACT) team leaders and other supervisors
  • Publish an Anxiety and Returning to School toolkit
  • Produce webinar series on youth and young adult peer support, adult peer support, and family peer support
  • Support monthly consultation calls for youth/young adult and adult peers
  • Develop youth and young adult peer workforce learning tools 
  • Provide training for Enhanced Illness Management and Recovery (E-IMR)
  • Support the implementation of Interconnected Systems Framework (ISF) for school districts
  • Convene learning communities to support best models of school mental health implementation
  • Coordinate with Washington DOH to provide a series for the workforce on resiliency in disaster response
  • Support learning communities on trauma-informed supervision and best practices for resilience
  • Conduct multi-day Healthy Healers training for indigenous rural Alaskan providers
  • Launch pilot program for peer-to-peer support for caregivers of loved ones with early psychosis
  • Provide training in CBT-informed skills for psychosis to relatives and friends of someone in recovery from a psychotic disorder
  • Support persons to become trainers on suicide prevention and safety planning interventions
  • Provide peer specialist consultation and self-care support for first episode and/or early psychosis
  • Provide Mindfulness-based Stress Reduction training and consultation to ACT team members in Region 10
Tier 3 (Intensive)
  • Continue follow-on supports to individuals trained in Cognitive Behavioral Intervention for Trauma in Schools, Bounce Back, and Support for Students Exposed to Trauma in Idaho
  • Continue intensive training and technical assistance on installing school mental health through MSST Framework
  • Host overview webinar and connected learning community for Skills for Psychological Recovery (SPR) for direct service providers
