Untapped Leadership - A Wellness Workshop Series for BIPOC-Identifying School Mental Health Professionals and Their Allies

Untapped Leadership
A Wellness Workshop Series for BIPOC-Identifying School Mental Health Professionals and Their Allies

Our region, the Pacific Southwest MHTTC, is committed to supporting BIPOC-identifying school mental health leaders and their allies with leadership development sessions to facilitate well-being and career support. We also know that the school and mental health professional pipeline struggles with recruiting and retaining representative professionals with diverse identities.

As such, we’re thrilled to partner with Untapped Leaders to offer frameworks, tools, and community to school mental health leaders and professionals in Region 9 (and beyond).

Join us and Untapped Leaders for a two-part offering. The first part (the Main Session) is open to everyone. The second part (the Private Community Sessions series) is only open to school mental health (SMH) professionals and leaders who identify as BIPOC.

A Note on Language

From Untapped Leaders: “We reference marginalized leaders and leaders of color throughout our work. We acknowledge that while we may hold collective experiences based on our diverse identities within dominant work culture, we understand that our experiences are all different and the erasure that can exist as a result of collective labels. Untapped Leaders brings together Black, Indigenous, Latinx, Asian, South Asian, Pacific Islander, MENA, and otherwise marginalized leaders from across industries. Our language speaks to the collective. Our framework and process speaks to the unique and individualized experiences we each hold.”

From the PS MHTTC: In this description and the series, we’re using the term “BIPOC” to center the distinct needs and experiences of Black and Indigenous school mental health professionals and leaders, aiming to center the systemic challenges that the dominant culture perpetuates. We are using the term “ally” as anyone in the school mental health field and/or who holds power and structural leadership who does not identify as/with Black, Indigenous, Latinx, Asian, South Asian, Pacific Islander, MENA, and otherwise marginalized positionalities.
