9:45 - 10:15 AM/MST | 10:45 - 11:15 AM/CST
This session is part of the South Dakota Area Health Education Center event "Mission Possible: Reducing the Impact of Substance Abuse and Mental Illness in Our Communities."
Educators play a vital role in promoting mental health and well-being, and identifying and responding to emerging mental illness in children and adolescents. However, they often have not received the education, training, and ongoing support needed to respond in the classroom. Lack of sufficient training impacts preservice teachers' ability to be successful in the classroom. Additionally, there is growing concern for the unaddressed behavioral needs on college campuses. This session will discuss implications and strategies for addressing mental health awareness in classrooms and on campuses.
Participants can expect to gain awareness of mental health needs and strategies to address mental health in classrooms and on college campuses.
