Pacific Islander Mental Health Awareness Curriculum

The Pacific Southwest Mental Health Technology Training Center, in partnership with the Pacific Behavioral Health Collaboration Council, is developing a Pacific Islander Mental Health Awareness Curriculum. The curriculum will offer a standard training experience that each of the Pacific Island jurisdictions can use and enhance with island specific information.

The purpose of the curriculum is to:

  • Build awareness about Pacific Islander mental health, mental wellness, and mental health challenges
  • Center indigenous ways of knowing, indigenous cultural practices, place-based sacred sites, and indigenous spirituality
  • Increase shared understanding of culture and wellness, and the influence on health beliefs and help seeking
  • Leverage the training as an opportunity to engage a potential workforce through workforce certification

Visit this page or access this flyer to find out how you can inform this free mental health awareness curriculum focusing on cultural and Indigenous practices and language.

The curriculum will address topics such as:

  • How do you talk about mental wellness and mental health challenges in your community?
  • What are some of the local cultural beliefs about mental wellness and mental health challenges?
  • How do you know when you or others need support?
  • What are some of the traditional ways that people seek help?
  • What are some self-care strategies that you know of?

We want to hear from you!

What are important topics/terms to include in a Pacific Islander mental health awareness training? And Why?

You are invited to share as many thoughts as you would like and why the topic should be included. Then you will be asked to rate the thoughts of others.

Share your thoughts!
