Youth Mental Health First Aid Training

 

DESCRIPTION

Youth Mental Health First Aid is an evidence-based training that teaches participants how to identify, understand and respond to signs of mental health and substance use challenges among children and adolescents ages 6-18. This two-part virtual training (October 24 & 26, 11:00am - 2:30pm each day) is primarily designed for adults who regularly interact with young people (such as parents, family members, caregivers, teachers, school staff, health and human services workers, etc.). Topics covered include anxiety, depression, substance use, disorders in which psychosis may occur, disruptive behavior disorders (including AD/HD), and eating disorders.

 

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

  • Describe common mental health challenges for youth
  • Explain typical adolescent development
  • Describe a 5-step action plan for how to help young people in both crisis and non-crisis situations
