Psychological First Aid

Psychological first aid (PFA) is an evidence-informed approach for providing basic psychological care in the short-term aftermath of a traumatic event. The COVID-19 pandemic has created chronic mental, emotional and physical challenges for people worldwide, especially for those who have lost a loved one, survived the Coronavirus, or been affected economically. Because of this public health emergency, the sheer volume of patients has become overwhelming for medical staff and first responders.

The Central East MHTTC and Addiction Technology Transfer Center (ATTC) have collaborated with the Anne Arundel County Maryland Mental Health Agency, C.OD-E Advisors and George, S. Everly. Jr., PhD, ABPP, FACLP to develop and deliver an advanced PFA training. Dr. Everly, the principal originator of PFA, serves as a professor at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. He is also the Co-Founder and Chairman Emeritus of the International Critical Incident Stress Foundation. This training will enhance the skills and knowledge of the Central East MHTTC and ATTC PFA Learning Collaborative to respond to individuals who have and/or who are concerned about COVID-19.
