Implementing Policies and Practices to Support LGBTQ+ Youth in Schools, Part 2

SERIES DESCRIPTION

The Central East MHTTC in collaboration with the National Center for School Mental Health is pleased to offer a school mental health webinar series with a focus on advancing high quality, sustainable school mental health from a multi-tiered system of support, trauma sensitive, and culturally responsive and equitable lens. To familiarize yourself with the foundations of school mental health, please review the school mental health guidance document.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

  • Describe systemic and environmental variables that contribute to mental health disparities
    among LGBTQ+ youth
  • Identify anti-discrimination policies and inclusive practices that can be implemented in
    schools and other youth-serving settings
  • Explore strategies to develop safe, welcoming, and LGBTQ+-affirming environments for youth

PRESENTERS

Gabrielle Doyle

Gabrielle Doyle (she/her) is the Senior Manager of State Advocacy at the Trevor Project, overseeing the organization’s state policy initiatives related to education and supporting transgender young people. Within her work, she supports efforts to improve the mental health outcomes of LGBTQ+ youth in schools and create environments where transgender young people can thrive. She brings over eight years of experience in advocacy spaces working to advance the rights of LGBTQ+ individuals and increase access to reproductive and sexual health services and education.

Alecia Rodriguez

Alecia Rodriguez, Ph.D., LMFT, MHC, CSOT is in private practice, holding licensure in Florida, Colorado, Virginia, and Utah, and provides clinical mental health services and marital, couples, and family therapy. She also coordinates mental health services for Miami-Dade County Public schools, including support of LGBTQ+ youth. Dr. Rodriguez offers lectures and workshops on subjects such as adolescent sexuality and working with justice-involved families and provides a range of therapeutic services, including sex therapy and treatment for juvenile and adult sex offenders. She has completed advanced training in clinical trauma, child abuse and neglect, adoption competency, gaming addiction, and autism spectrum disorder.
