Alabama State Fact Sheet: Developed by the Southeast MHTTC, this fact sheet provides an overview of the mental health services and landscape of Alabama.

Mental Health Services: 

Mental Health Initiatives: 

  • Individual Placement and Support:  Evidence-based service model aimed to assist people with serious mental illness (SMI), to include co-occurring substance use disorders, in obtaining and maintaining competitive jobs based upon their preferences.
  • Child and Adolescent Needs and Strengths (CANS): Assessment tool used statewide for children and adolescents receiving services through the public mental health system.

Mental Health Associations:

  • Mental Health America of Etowah County: Promoting mental health awareness and treatment of mental illness through advocacy, education, support, and referral.
  • Mental health America in Montgomery: Promote mental health as a critical part of overall wellness, including prevention services for all; early identification and intervention for those at risk; and integrated care, services, and supports for those who need them, with recovery as the goal.
  • NAMI Alabama: Comprised of local support and advocacy groups throughout the state dedicated to improving the quality of life for persons with a mental illness in Alabama.
