After the success of our summer series, Decolonizing Training and Supervision: Implementing a Culturally Responsive Model of Training, the Mid-America MHTTC and Morningstar Counseling are proud to announce the Decolonizing Training and Supervision Conference.

This two-day event aims to teach participants about the role of colonization and historical trauma in behavioral health training, as well as to educate participants about what it means to decolonize training and supervision. Attendees will also be invited to explore the competing worldviews of supervisors and supervisees while in the training and supervision space. Full training learning objectives include:

  • Describe the role of colonization and historical trauma in behavioral health training.
  • Define what it means to decolonize supervision and training.
  • Identify ways to apply the supervision models in a culturally adapted manner and how this can impact health outcomes.
  • Examine the power differentials that exist between supervisors and supervisees to identify practices that protect providers/trainees.
  • Create your own collaborative supervision contracts highlighting cultural integration.
  • Identify the roles and responsibilities as individuals and the healthcare team when supporting a trainee's experience over the year to adapt your clinic aesthetic, policies and procedures, language, and staff representation.

The November 9 & 10th sessions will qualify for 12 continuing education credits, and is free to attend. To attend, please apply on the form listed on our event page. Space is limited, and attendees of the webinar series will be given priority to attend. Lodging accommodations are available on a limited basis.
